Position Title: Senior Estimator (Federal Construction)

Location: Springfield, MA (Office-Based)

Compensation: $100,000 – $130,000 + Performance Bonuses

The Role

The Senior Estimator is a critical leadership position responsible for the accuracy and competitiveness of our bid proposals. You will lead the pre-construction process, from initial RFP analysis to final bid submission. This role requires a deep understanding of federal procurement methods (LPTA and Best Value) and the ability to produce detailed, "ground-up" estimates for complex mechanical and structural projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full-Cycle Estimating: Prepare comprehensive cost estimates for federal projects ranging from $500k to $15M+.
  • RFP Analysis: Review and interpret complex government solicitations, technical specifications, and blueprints to determine the scope of work and risk factors.
  • Subcontractor Relations: Maintain and expand a robust database of New England-based trade partners. Lead the solicitation process to ensure competitive and complete coverage.
  • Quantity Take-offs: Perform detailed material, labor, and equipment take-offs using digital software (e.g., On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam).
  • Technical Writing: Assist in developing technical proposals, including past performance write-ups and project execution plans.
  • Site Walkthroughs: Attend regional pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess existing conditions and logistical challenges.

  • Experience: 8–12+ years of construction estimating experience, with a heavy emphasis on Public Works or Federal contracts.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Mechanical/Electrical Literacy: Strong ability to estimate MEP systems, as many projects involve complex facility upgrades.
  • Analytical Mindset: Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to spot "scope gaps" in subcontractor quotes.
  • Local Insight: Established relationships with subcontractors and vendors in the Massachusetts and Connecticut markets.
