Title: Senior Sitework & Civil Estimator
Location: New Haven County, CT
Salary Range: $100,000 – $130,000 + Performance Bonuses
Industry: Sitework / Civil
The Opportunity
Our client is a premier, well-established civil contractor with an elite reputation for delivering complex infrastructure, roadwork, and large-scale site development projects across Connecticut. We are seeking a Senior Sitework & Civil Estimator to lead the pre-construction department. This role is designed for a strategic thinker who understands that a winning bid is built on technical precision, geological insight, and aggressive subcontractor negotiation.
Robust & Expanded Responsibilities
1. Full-Lifecycle Estimate Architecture
-
Self-Perform Mastery: Prepare exhaustive equipment, labor, and material estimates for all phases of sitework, including mass earthwork, rock blasting/excavation, underground utilities (storm/sanitary/water), and finished site improvements.
-
Database Management: Maintain and optimize a robust historical cost-code database within HCSS HeavyBid, ensuring that unit prices reflect current market volatility and regional labor shifts.
-
Site Intelligence: Analyze geotechnical reports and conduct physical site assessments to identify subsurface risks, groundwater challenges, and logistical restrictions that impact daily production rates.
2. Pre-Construction Strategy & Buy-Out
-
Subcontractor Ecosystem: Cultivate and vet a premium network of subcontractors. You will lead the "scope leveling" process to ensure 100% coverage and identify "value engineering" opportunities that give the firm a competitive edge.
-
Post-Award Transition: Lead the "Contract Buy-Out" process and conduct comprehensive project hand-off meetings. You will provide the Project Manager and Superintendent with a "Roadmap to Profitability," detailing the assumptions and strategies used during the bid.
-
Bid Leadership: Manage and mentor support staff during high-pressure bid cycles, ensuring all submittals are compliant with state, local, and private owner specifications.
3. Technical Precision & Modeling
-
Digital Takeoffs: Execute high-accuracy quantity takeoffs utilizing Agtek and On-Screen Takeoff. You must be able to visualize 3D earthwork models to optimize cut/fill balances.
-
Strategic Scheduling: Develop preliminary project schedules during the bid phase to identify critical path milestones and equipment mobilization needs.
Advanced Requirements & Qualifications
-
Experience: 5–10 years of experience in heavy civil/sitework estimating (3–5 years will be considered if accompanied by significant project wins).
-
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
-
Software Power-User: Mastery of HCSS HeavyBid is essential. Proficiency in Agtek (for 3D modeling) and On-Screen Takeoff is required.
-
Geological Literacy: Ability to interpret complex boring logs and geotechnical data to estimate rock excavation and soil stabilization costs accurately.
-
Analytical Prowess: Ability to multitask under the pressure of hard-bid deadlines while maintaining "finite" attention to detail.

-
Generous Compensation: $100,000 – $130,000 base salary.
-
